7 BENEFITS OF DRINKING ALKALINE WATER
A very important aspect of water quality is the pH balance. pH is a unit of measurement that can reveal whether a solution is more acidic, neutral, or alkaline. Referring back to our grade school water chemistry lessons will help us understand what pH really is.
WHAT IS PH?
pH, or potential hydrogen, measures the level of acidity or alkalinity. It is noted as a numerical value from 1 to 14, with 7 as the mid-point (neutral). Numbers below 7 indicate acidity which strengthens as the number decreases—1 is the most acidic. Values above 7 indicate alkalinity which increases as the number increases—14 is the most alkaline.
HOW PH AFFECTS YOUR BODY
The lower your body’s pH, the more acidic your blood is, and the weaker your body becomes. If your pH slips too far to the acidic side, a condition referred to as acidosis occurs. When this happens, cells can develop a toxic overload and become weakened which can cause serious health problems. Our bodies function optimally when our blood pH is in a range of 7.35 to 7.45. Drinking alkaline water and maintaining a healthy diet is crucial in sustaining good health and may help heal acidosis-related diseases. What we ingest and drink will have a significant influence on our bodies’ pH level.
